Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic syndrome refers to a group of health problems that include high blood pressure, increased body weight, abnormal blood lipid levels (cholesterol or triglycerides), and always includes a metabolic disorder known as insulin resistance. Insulin resistance refers to the cells' resistance to insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar, which leads to abnormal glucose metabolism. Excessive insulin production leads to obesity, high blood pressure, and high levels of blood lipids (triglycerides). Patients with uncontrolled metabolic syndrome are more prone to disorders such as cardiovascular diseaseσ, cancer, diabetes, and other chronic diseases.
