Creatine is an amino acid found mainly in the muscles of the body as well as in the brain. Although it can be produced within the body by the liver, pancreas, and kidneys, most people receive creatine through diet (fish and red meat). The body converts creatine into phosphocreatine and stores it in the muscles, where it is used to produce energy. Creatine is transported from the sites of synthesis (kidney, liver, pancreas) through the circulatory system to the muscle tissue and brain where it is phosphorylated on phosphocreatine.
