Diagnostiki Athinon's Anaemia Profile (CheckUp A11) includes carefully selected tests to determine the presence of anaemia and to investigate possible etiological factors.

Anemia is characterized by laboratory findings of a decrease in hematocrit, hemoglobin, or the number of red blood cells in the blood, at levels lower than those corresponding to the age and sex of the subject.

There are several forms of anaemia:

  • Aplastic Anaemia. It is due to the inability of the bone marrow to produce the precursor forms of red blood cells.
  • Iron Deficiency Anaemia. It is the most common form of anaemia and is due to iron deficiency either due to insufficient intake (from food) or extensive blood loss.
  • Megaloblastic Anaemia. Due to the lack of Vitamin B12 or Folic Acid (Vitamin B9), molecules very important in the process of hematopoiesis
  • Pernicious Anaemia. It is due to the lack or reduced activity of the Endogenous Factor, a molecule responsible for the absorption of Vitamin B12
  • Hemolytic Anaemia. Due to the premature destruction of red blood cells
To whom this check-up is addressed

This test is useful for anyone who wants to find out if they are anemic, especially if they have symptoms of fatigue and low energy. Anaemia Profile is especially important for young women because of the constant loss of blood during menstruation and the onset of anemia due to this condition.
